Exotic landscapes and tropical climates offerendless ways to enjoy yourleisure time

Cocoa Beach has the appearance of being just an uncrowded quiet beach but appearances can be deceiving. It is located on a barrier island in the Central-East section of Florida, an hour's drive east of Orlando, and separated from the city of Cocoa by the Intracoastal waterway and the Banana River. Just six miles long and mostly less than one mile wide, Cocoa Beach has ocean beachfront running the entire length of its city limits.

The Space Complexes of the Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral are situated to the north, and Patrick Air Force Base is to the south. Also, the City is situated just minutes from Florida's fastest growing port - Port Canaveral.

Where else can you choose between watching a space launch from the beach or precious marine and bird species in their natural habitat? Or choose between a swim in the ocean, canoeing among the Thousand Islands for the nature-oriented or a quiet kayak exploration off the Banana River islands from our river shore? Play a round of golf at our 27-hole golf course, surf cast from the beach for dinner or just enjoy a day at the beach where you will likely see dolphins at play or be lucky enough to see an occasional whale in migration. Or fishing in the Banana River or off the ocean beaches. Widely known as the surfing capitol of the East Coast, Cocoa Beach is the hometown of a number of surfing champions - including six time world champ Kelly Slater.

Our location is equally ideal for business as we are just 45 minutes east of the Orlando International Airport.
This is a place where business thrives, from the largest corporations to local, neighborhood shops and home-based businesses.

Activities

The City of Cocoa Beach offers a wide variety of organized recreational activities and programs for its residents. The Cocoa Beach Country Club (CBCC) is the most all-inclusive country club around - it is a public course open to everyone! The CBCC features three separate nines, putting greens, a driving range and a "19th hole."

The City of Cocoa Beach Aquatic Center is where your children can learn to swim or learn water safety. It is also where senior citizens can take water aerobic classes. The Cocoa Beach High School trains there and hosts swim meets there as well.

Our City Recreational Department has a wide variety of programs going on throughout the year. The popular Summer Day Camp fills up quickly when school is out. Reasonably priced, school age kids enjoy many different activities as well as field trips.

The Tennis Complex, located adjacent to the golf course on the Cocoa Beach Country Club complex, features ten lighted courts and a professional staff to give lessons that will improve your skills.

Cocoa Beach is a residential community with a base population of 12,800 and is home to an active retiree population, many of whom devoted their careers to our nation's space program.

Going back to the 1920's when it was a sleepy isolated beach community through the years when the first astronauts trained and relaxed in the area, our small community has developed into a unique blend of residential, retirement, retail and tourist segments. Technology and the space age mix with historical buildings, scenic views and natural wonders.

While these segments demonstrate the diversity of our community, we share an interest in the great outdoors in a tropical locale, in showcasing and protecting our environment and its wildlife and in sharing the quality of life that comes from excellent schools, responsible businesses and well-maintained parks and public facilities.

In 1965, a zany sitcom about an astronaut and his unbottled genie first aired on American TV. Forty years later, the town celebrated their role as the show's location with "We Dream of Jeannie," a special event on Friday, Sept. 16. The town held a Jeannie and Teannie Jeannie look-alike contests. The city's business community hopes to make the Jeannie contest an annual event, said Leslie Taylor, event coordinator for the Cocoa Beach Area Chamber of Commerce.
