Brevard County, known as
the Space Coast, is the home of the Kennedy Space
Center and our Nation's space shuttle launch site.
And home to one of the largest concentrations of manatees
in Florida, Brevard has as many as one-third of the
animals that may cruise through the Indian River Lagoon

The County is geographically one of the longest in Florida
extending 75 miles from tip to tip along the Atlantic
Ocean, but it is also fairly narrow, only 20 miles wide.
With a vibrant economy combining high-tech and other industry
with agriculture and other service businesses and organizations,
the many communities along the coast also provide a good
basis for an energetic tourism business.
Recreational activities play a large part in the lives
of the locals. Golf enthusiasts have twelve courses from
which to choose (check out the area golf
courses) while tennis players can choose from eight
tennis courts. Water sports - swimming, sailing, surfing,
diving, and boating offer recreation for the entire family.
Fishing is plentiful - snook, tarpon, shark, flounder,
bluefish, seatrout. Area lakes offer the finest freshwater
fish, while the Atlantic Ocean is home to saltwater species.
Soccer tournaments are gaining popularity, with games
being played during two seasons-indoor and outdoor. The
Grant Seafood Festival is the third weekend in February.
The Melbourne Art Festival is held the fourth weekend

March 4, 1994 marked opening day of Space Coast Stadium
in Viera, Florida. The stadium serves as the spring training
facility for the Washington Nationals as well as the facility
for the National's minor league affiliate, the Brevard
County Manatees. The Nationals play here during the month
of March in the Grapefruit League. When they leave, the
Space Coast Stadium becomes the Manatees home until September.
